The Donation & The Plan Minimize

A 16" rock saw and a 10" rock saw are being auctioned by The Greater St. Louis Association of Earth Science Clubs scholarship fund.  Bidding will close at 11:59 pm, Sunday, November 24.  Winning bidders must pick up the saws in St. Peters, Missouri on Saturday, November 30 between 10 am and noon or make other arrangements.

Charles & Joy Johnson donated a large collection of rocks & lapidary equipment to the GSLAESC Scholarship Fund in Fall 2024.  Proceeds from all sales will go to the scholarship fund.  Please see below for details and to place a bid.

Most of the donated rocks will be sold through the Scholarship Boutique at our Treasures of the Earth show in August over the next several years.

Please see details about each item, including photos, below.

GSLAESC makes no guarantees about how well or how long these machines will work.  We believe that they worked the last time the donor tried to use them.  We have plugged them in and run them, but we have not tried to cut any rocks with them.

Please send your questions & comments using the Contact Us form below.  If you need more space, just ask us to call or email you.

Bids may be placed using the form on this web page until November 24 at 11:59 pm CST.  The highest bid will win; there are no reserve prices.  In the event of a tie, the earliest high bid will win.  Winners will be notified November 25.

Pickup & Payment

Payment should be in cash or check payable to "GSLAESC".  We will not be able to accept credit cards.

Winning bidders will be able to remove their items November 30 between 10 and noon CST from a drive-up storage unit in St. Peters, Missouri.  Details will be provided to winning bidders when they are notified that they won.  Bidders who won't be able to pick up items during that time must make other arrangements before bidding.  We might be able to meet winning bidders at the storage unit at other times.  We might be able to transport items to Oakville, store them for a short time, & allow winning bidders to pick up items from there.

16" Saw

Estimated value:  at least $750

This saw is very heavy.  You will need two or more helpers to load it into your vehicle & to unload it from your vehicle.  A ramp would be very helpful.

36" long x 51" tall x 27 wide (all measurements are approximate)

A label on this saw seems to identify it as a Highland Lapidary J-3.

There is no cover over the pulleys and belts.

The hood is broken.

The crate of rocks and the four additional blades shown in the pictures are included with this saw.  The pictures of the blades show one side, the same side with a tape measure, and the other side of each blade.  Some blades appear to be very worn and may no longer be usable.

The instruction manual seems to be intended for this saw and is included with this saw.

10" Saw
Estimated value:  at least $350
34.5" x 19" x 16.5" (all measurements are approximate)

The manufacturer of this saw is unknown.

This saw is mounted on a base.  The first two dimensions given are the length and width of the base.

In addition to the plastic hood, a homemade wood and plastic hood is included which seems to be designed to reduce oil splatter.  The hood is approximately 53" x 38" x18".  If the winning bidder doesn't want this, we can dispose of it.

The five additional blades shown in the pictures are included with this saw.  Most of the pictures of the blades show one side, the same side with a tape measure, and the other side of each blade or package.  Some blades appear to be very worn and may no longer be usable.
